The One Opinion That Matters
When I first started learning about transformational mind, body and soul work it was still foreign to a lot of people. Even though it was becoming more recognised, it was still attached to the negative stigma around ‘self help’. For me personally though, I didn’t care about what others thought, I saw the radical changes it was having on my life and this was enough to give me the boost to keep on going.
My learnings became like a drug to me, I couldn’t get enough. After a year or so of immersing myself in the teachings of countless spiritual mentors, mind, body soul doctors and guru’s, I slowly started speaking up about what I had learnt. Eventually this manifested into the A Life of Greatness podcast, video’s, talks and so much more than I had ever dreamed of. My mission I knew was to help others and empower them with the teachings I had learnt to make their lives better…and nothing was going to stand in my way.
The thing that has fuelled me the most is the love I receive from the people who follow my work. To know I’m making a difference in this world is all I care about. I have had people in my life who ‘don’t believe in this sort of stuff’ or perhaps think ‘I’m a bit out there’…but honestly I don’t care. The sense of purpose and love I get from serving others is the only thing that matters to me.
For a lot of my life however, I did care what others thought and sometimes caring about those opinions or even anticipating them, hindered me from doing what I really wanted to do or what was right for my personal journey. I know it’s easy for me to tell you not to care, but really the only person’s opinion you should care about is your own. As Kate Langbroek puts it, when she became too tired to care about what others thought, that was the time in her life where she truly felt liberated and when things really started to fall into place. Feedback and advice from the people you trust and care about can be really useful but at the end of the day, only you can sit with your decisions and actions, so trust your intuition and lead with your heart. As one of my greatest spiritual mentors Wayne Dyer says “don’t die with your music still inside of you”. What in life is going to make you truly happy? Follow that path and go for it.
Let me know how your life changed when you stopped caring so much about what others thought and started following your dreams.
